Thrift Store Cashier

Summary of Position
The Thrift Store Cashier is the face of Freedom Thrift, responsible for providing exceptional customer service and accurately processing sales transactions. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a positive shopping experience, which directly translates into financial support for Freedom Ministry’s (ROFM) addiction recovery program. This role involves interaction with volunteers, customers, and men enrolled in the ROFM work therapy program.
Thrift Store Intake Processor

Summary of Position
The Thrift Store Intake Processor is a critical support role responsible for the efficient and orderly management of all incoming donations at Freedom Thrift. This position ensures that donated goods are received, screened, sorted, and prepared quickly and effectively to maximize revenue that supports Freedom Ministry’s (ROFM) addiction recovery program. This role works closely with volunteers and men enrolled in the ROFM work therapy program.
Key Responsibilities
1. Donation Receiving and Processing:
Receiving: Professionally and courteously accept donations from the public at the receiving area. Issue receipts accurately and thank donors for their support.
Initial Screening: Perform initial screening and triage of donations, rejecting items that are damaged, stained, hazardous, or not accepted by the store (e.g., electronics, specific recalled items).
2. Sorting and Preparation:
Sorting: Efficiently sort donations into appropriate categories (e.g., clothing, housewares, seasonal, media, furniture, recyclables).
Processing: Tag, bag, or bin items according to established store procedures, ensuring they are ready for the pricing department.
Commodity Management: Identify, separate, and stage items destined for bulk sale, recycling, or baling.
3. Safety, Training, and Inventory Flow:
Workplace Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized processing area, ensuring compliance with all safety procedures.
Team Collaboration: Serve as a positive role model and effectively direct the tasks of assigned volunteers and students participating in the ROFM work therapy program.
Equipment Operation: Safely operate material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks) as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience in a fast-paced retail, warehouse, or receiving environment is preferred.
Organizational Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and move materials frequently throughout the shift (must be able to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted).
Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills to interact positively with donors, staff, and program participants.
Mission Alignment: Must support the mission of Freedom Ministry (ROFM) and adhere to its Christian values and code of conduct.
Special Conditions
Background Check: Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Confidentiality: Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information related to ROFM students and their participation in the program.
Role Modeling: Expected to exhibit professional and positive behavior at all times while interacting with men in the recovery program.
