Jan was on her knees, tears streaming, laying down her Isaac, her last born, just as Abraham modeled. She was entrusting God with the life of her son, knowing his life or death was in God’s hands. Knowing whatever occurred would be for their good and His glory because He had a plan for this son and their family. In that posture of obedience, she knew nothing thwarts God’s promises or plans.

Two of the hardest moments for Jan and her husband during this long journey were having their son arrested and seeing him suffering, as he tried to quit but couldn’t on his own. They were emotionally and financially drained. Times when they thought they were providing loving help they realized they were enabling him. Jan felt trying not to enable him was like walking a tight rope.
